Today, entrepreneurs looking for an edge depend on health and wellness coaches to help them increase their focus and energy quickly so they can maximize their moneymaking capacity, day-to-day performance, and transform not just their bodies, but also the way they live, feel, and see themselves when they look in the mirror. Travis Dillard, wellness coach, entrepreneur, and body transformation specialist, says living in a state of empowerment helped him launch a quest to find his health, and a consequent passion to build a business designed to help other entrepreneurs do the same. Fitness and health were not always part of Travis’ life. In fact, for most of his youth, he took his health for granted. Now, Travis helps entrepreneurs and high achievers optimize their life by guiding them to a fit body and a clear, focused mind to maximize contribution and live the life they’ve always wanted.

Body Transformation: Increasing Your Moneymaking Capacity with Travis Dillard

I have the awesome and good fortune to be interviewing Travis Dillard. Travis, thank you so much for joining us.

Thanks for having me, Seth. I’m happy to be here.

It’s our pleasure to have you. Let’s go back in time a little bit for the folks who may not know who you are and tell us a little bit about how you got started.

When people ask me this question, I like telling this story about who I am because I am an average guy. I’m no different than anyone else. I grew up in middle class American, in the suburbs with a supportive family. I was pushed to make good grades, get a good job, do my thing and live life on other people’s terms. That’s what I did. I made good grades. I went to college. I went through the system, and little did I know along the way that was me just settling.I was settling for a life of mediocrity which opened up some amazing doorways. It started though to show up in my life physically. I was always that skinny kid growing up but through this life of mediocrity and just settling, I’ve managed to gain a bunch of weight. I started to feel down. I wasn’t happy with who I was, where I was headed. I was bored. I didn’t know why. It leads to unhappiness.

Fast forward, I decided to break the cycle when I did got so fed up with it. To make the long story short, I started my own business and decided to get fit. Along the way, I developed a bond with high achievers, entrepreneurs, CEOs and those seeking more who are always trying to push the needle in my life in any way I can.The issue I found was that entrepreneurs push themselves to the brink of fatigue and burnout. As you know, the entrepreneur deals with more stress than the average person. They deal with tough decisions. They can’t deal with a lot of overwhelm and nobody wants this burned out version of yourself. The question came up, how can we maximize energy, start to feel good, but also look good as a side effect? How can we expect others to put their trust in us if it’s clear that we’re not taking care of ourselves? I ended up developing a tailored fitness approach for high achievers. I work with entrepreneurs. That’s in a nutshell a very abridged version of my story.

What do you wish you knew when you started that you know now?

I’d say that when I started my journey I wanted to be something different. I’m saying, I couldn’t find my authentic self. I tried to find it and I was so bogged down by what others thought and pleasing my family. I spent my life trying to make them happy versus making myself happy. What’s interesting along the way is that you may think, going down this healthy road, isn’t that selfish because we spend our lives trying to help others. We’re with our clients trying to transform their lives. We’re with our families trying to be there for them and we rarely look at our own lives. We look at our own lives last. In fact, what is found is, is that you’re being selfish by not focusing on you. Not treating your body and giving yourself the time and space that you need in order to maximize your energy levels and focus so that you can ultimately be there. If you don’t treat yourself first, everything else goes to shit. That’s what it’s all about.

With all the success you’ve achieved, what is your biggest challenge?

SP Travis Dillard | Body Transformation

Body Transformation: When you first start, you want to be a hero to everybody – but that’s just not how the cookie crumbles.

What I struggle with from day-to-day is staying focused on one thing. There is much stuff being thrown at us, so much different opportunities, and the power of no is something that I have learned the hard way. I now understand that I can’t go after any and every opportunity in terms of no, I have this vision to help every single entrepreneur, every single high achiever out there to transform their bodies and finally live the life that they were meant to live at their highest capacity. The reality is I can’t do that for everybody. For me, the hardest part with the real-life look is I have these services that are truly transformational, but I’m here to help people who want it, not that need it. That was a light bulb for me. When you first start, you want to be a hero to everybody and unfortunately, that’s not how the cookie crumbles. What you’re doing by trying to be a hero to everybody is you are taking away from your potential to help fewer but fully transform their lives completely versus a breadth of people just helping them a little bit if that makes sense.

What are you finding are some of the biggest mistakes that business owners are making in trying to achieve these types of goals?

The biggest mistake that business owners, entrepreneurs, and coaches make are that they look at their clients and their buyers as customers. They’re looking at them on top of this pedestal like, “I am the all-knowing expert. Listen to everything that I say because I know more than you,” sort of thing. That’s an exaggerated or an extreme way of thinking about it. I find that the best and the most powerful coaching and owning your role as a CEO, a business owner, or a high achiever in general, isto be authentic. When you’re going through a struggle, even though you’re teaching a way of doing something, the reality is, is that sometimes coaches struggle with the things that they teach and rather than holding that back and not telling your clients or even prospects that, “This is something I teach, but I also struggle with this.”

For instance, a huge problem that we’re all facing is when we wake up in the morning and we choose to whip out our phones and scroll down Facebook or go through our emails, more than likely we’ll see something that we don’t like or whatever that may be. If an employee quits or you read something on Facebook that gets you emotionally driven in a negative way, that’s going to affect you in the next two to three hours. The problem is that when we wake up, we’ve got this high drive that we want to go ahead and get started with our day. By doing this, your cortisol levels are high, your stress hormones go up even higher than thatand unfortunately, it’s going to affect other meetings, other content creation, and other things throughout the day.

This is something that I struggled with because we’re in this high achieving status where we want to be like, “There are all these opportunities out there.” This goes back to the struggles that I was talking about. There are all these opportunities out there and we just want it. We’re afraid we’re going to miss something, but here is why you won’t miss anything. If you create that space for yourself, you can have the energy and focus on whatever it is that you set out for that day or whatever’s on your to-do list and have the level of focus to where you can have 110% of yourself working on that focus right then and there versus spreading yourself thin throughout the entire day.Chasing the next thing, and never getting anything productive done that’s on your to-do list that’s towards your vision and towards your ultimate goals.

[Tweet “When people are constantly comparing themselves to others, it’s just driving down their potential.”]

In a nutshell, it’s being authentic and talking about struggles that you go through and sharing that so you can be on other people’s levels. You’re not any better than your customers and your clients. You may be one step ahead in your journey, but that doesn’t make you better. That’s what a lot of coaches, experts, and “gurus” struggle with. They’re not being fair to the people that they’re serving because it’s creating this comparison where people are constantly comparing themselves to others and it’s just driving down their potential. They’re like, “I see all these other people succeeding around me and they’re not struggling, but I’m over here struggling with this.” If people were honest, you would see that everybody is struggling in some way and that’s inspiring or it can be inspiring if used correctly.

I think that is profound and an incredibly helpful advice. I resemble that remark. I’ve often thought, “Am I the only one going through whatever it is that I’m going through at the moment?” That is brilliant and spot on. I know that you are a voracious learner. How do you stay on top of all of the information that you must get inundated with?

I make sure to turn off my Facebook newsfeed during the day. That’s to keep me from looking at pictures of dancing dogs and squirrels, but I like to do at least 30 to 40 minutes of reading every single day.Whatever book it is,just read.Whether it’s nonfiction or fiction to get the creative juices flowing with fiction and nonfiction to learn further about my craft, and to open up our minds. I went to Tai Lopez’s conference and something that he mentioned that resonated with me that I’d like to share with you. He says that you can judge somebody’s level of humbleness by asking a simple question, especially for people who are extremely wealthy. “How many books did you read last year?”

If you are a book reader that means that you are seeking further knowledge, that you are showing that you are not a know-it-all, and you’re someone that no matter how much you learn and master your craft, you’re always willing to learn more. You’re always a student of your own craft per se. For me, it’s just reading. A lot of people ask, “What type of books should I be reading?” Just go out and read because it’ll open up your eyes to a whole other portion of your brain that hasn’t even been activated, and that will allow you to open up your mind and your own businesses. It’s making sure that you allocate some time throughout your day to get some reading done. I could go into a ton of different tangents on this. For me and for a lot of my clients especially, it’s important that the biggest thing that you do even before you start implementing tactics, reading, and nutrition is making sure that you have all of these stuffs to optimize your energy levels and focus, it’s important that you focus on mindset.

I don’t just say that because that’s what everybody else is saying, I say that because in all honesty, when you wake up in the morning, you have a story that you’re telling yourself. Tony Robbins says this perfectly. “You either have a story of empowerment or one that’s bringing you down.” Unfortunately, most people have a story that they’re not good enough in the morning which is going to affect their state throughout the day. If you don’t have a story of empowerment, you’re going to have a negative state. No matter what tactics, whether it be business, whether it be health, you could be given a foolproof health plan that guarantees that you drop 30 pounds in the next week and all these stuffs then it’s a perfect 100%. If you’re living from this state of disempowerment, the first problem you run into, you’re going to say, “This wasn’t for me. I told you I couldn’t do this. I’m not going to do this,” and you’re going to drop it. That’s what happens with most people who are in a rot because it’s the story that they tell themselves is they don’t need more stuff.

[Tweet “When you choose to break the cycle is when you’ll move ahead in your life.”]

A lot of people just keep chasing this stuff. They’re always in this reactive mode or this bound nature that they’re waiting for something to happen rather than following a to-do list or following their vision. They are just waiting for stuff to happen and when it happens it’s either good or bad and they freak out. Thenthey’re back and they start the day over tomorrow with the same mindset, the same disempower and it’s this continuous cycle. When you choose to break the cycle is when you’ll move ahead in your lives. The mindset is no matter what we’re talking about here is the first thing and the foundation of any change you’re going to make, any transformation.

Once you have that in place through a health and fitness perspective, then you talk about hydration and how you can optimize your hormone profiles through full body workouts. You talk about nutrition, creating that space, building that morning routine in the mornings. It’s all about increasing your focus, energy, reducing the amount of time it takes, reducing the amount of effort that it takes to do daily activities while ultimately increasing your moneymaking capacity.

For those folks who are resonating with what you’re saying and want to learn more about you, where’s the best place for them to go?

They can go to TravisDillard.com. You’ll notice the fourth tab on the left. It says The Healthy Travelers Cheat Sheet, click on that and it will bring you to the Healthy Traveler Cheat Sheet. Essentially, that’s for your next conference, your next family vacation, or when you’re away from home base so you don’t have to fall off track. A lot of us think that we have to eat pizza and all this other junk when we’re away because we don’t have time, we didn’t prepare, but that’s not the case. This is a simple guide. It will take you ten minutes to go through and I can promise you you’re going to be able to up level your health and your fitness and keep track with any physical or mental goals you have in the future and for your next conference. If you’d like to connect with me further, there are ways to do that on the website as well.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to interview. Thank you so much for sharing that awesome information with our guests. Thanks, everybody. We will talk to you next time.
